Perhaps you are wondering what "style" of music we use at First Baptist Church. Our best answer to that question is that we seek to use music that honors God and speaks to hearts. The Bible talks more about the purposes of worship music than it does a specific style. We sing songs that are brand new as well as those that have stood the test of time, continuing to inspire and equip God’s people for many, many years.
The 150th chapter of the book of Psalms may be considered the “finale” for this great portion of God’s Word. In that brief chapter we can learn much about God’s intentions for music in ministry. These verses command us to use the God-given talent of vocalists and instrumentalists to bring our praises before Him in recognition of all He has done. Several instruments are listed as aids which we can use in our quest to worship God with every means we can find. A mechanical instrument by itself cannot praise God, for it does not have breath (life). However, in the hands of a skilled musician it can create music that will lift the spirit of those who listen. (Remember David and his harp.) After all, music was created by God for His glory! So, the Bible instructs us to praise Him with our voices and with our instruments.
In following the direction of God’s Word, we have developed a variety of musical programs to involve as many people as possible in serving the Lord through music and to assist them in learning how to improve their musical skills. At First Baptist Church there is an opportunity for everyone to be a part of the music program. We encourage people who have a heart for praising our Lord in music to join us in this ministry. |
